Equine assisted therapy offers immense potential for mental health treatment and supporting clients' wellbeing. Come join us for an immersive, hands-on continuing education workshop all about effectively harnessing equine therapy approaches in your social work or counseling practice.
In this dynamic course, you’ll learn:
The research and evidence behind using equine activities therapeutically
Key techniques and interventions including equine-assisted learning
Strategies for setting up impactful sessions and integrating equine therapy methods
Appropriate participant selection and safety protocols
Experiential components where you’ll be working directly with our specially-trained horses
Whether you’re new to incorporating horses in treatment or want to expand your skillset, this course provides a thorough grounding in equine assisted interventions. Learning Objectives:
Attendees will:
- Demonstrate 2 different equine-assisted therapeutic techniques (such as equine guided learning and therapeutic riding) during the hands-on equine session.
- Develop one sample equine assisted therapy treatment plan, outlining at minimum 5 components, that is tailored to a hypothetical client case study by end of workshop.
- Identify at least 3 assessment tools used for appropriately screening and selecting equine therapy participants by the end of the workshop.
- Be able to understand the difference between EAP, EAL (equine assisted learning) , TR (therapeutic riding), therapy animal visits, etc.
- Learn about horses, including horse care, psychology, behavior, self awareness working with others, self care, active listening, skills development, leadership skills
- Be able to identify professional programs that also offer EAP (equine assisted psychotherapy)
- Be able to discuss and process the non-verbal equine cues and behavior and how the participants communicate their own feelings with non-verbal cues, behavior and body language
